Changing the image of the female MC, Janae crosses the boundaries of contemporary and classic hip hop through relatable lyrics and innovative style. The Virginia native Janae Smith has received accolades from Sean “JAY-Z” Carter, Pharrell Williams, Timbaland, and The Clipse, to name a few. The unique MC has been pursued musically by some of musics’ most prestigious “heavy weights”. Janae fell in love with hip hop at an early age.
“I MODELED MY BEHAVIOR AFTER ALL OF THE GREATEST, ITS LIKE RAKIM WITHOUT THE FADE AND McMILLAN MINUS THE PAPER, ONE OF THE MOST ACCOMPLISHED AUTHORS OF MY GENERATION”.
Her brother, now business partner, saw a side of her that everyone else was unfamiliar with. To outsiders and peers at Salem High School, she was a star basketball player, but her brother was determined to show the rest of the school her true talent. After winning countless lunchroom battles, Janae realized she had what it took to move forward with a career in music. The then aspiring MC really took to pursuing a rap career of her own when she was 17 years old forming Royal Family Records. She released her first album entitled Come and Get me Pt 1. As it soared heavily underground, Janae continued to deliver for her fans, later releasing This Aint A Movie Pt. 1 & 2. Her most recent mixtape, Aint About Fame, can be downloaded now at DatPiff.com.
